Creating your own YouTube Channel

Video Transcript

Hello and welcome. Thank you for choosing PD/GO Digital Marketing for all your digital marketing needs. And in the video today we're going to be taking a look at setting up your own youtube channel.

Now to get started, we're gonna want to pull up our preferred browser. I'm using Google chrome. You can use Firefox or safari or whichever browser you're comfortable. We're going to go up at the top, the address bar. Then there were going to put in youtube.com. And here we are. Now that we're here, we're going to go up to the top click the "sign in" button. Now this tutorial assumes that you don't currently have a Google account. If you do, you can sign in right here, but we're going to assume that we don't so you can click create account. Now from here, I'm just going to give it a name. You'll want to put in your own first and last name.

You're going to generate a password, and click next. Now it's going to want to confirm yoor email address. So we're going to go inside of the email that we provided. Get that verification code. We'll be right back. Put that in. Okay now that we have that verification code, we can put it in and then press send. Now it's going to want us to also give a phone number that it can send a text to, so we're going to do that now and then we'll input the verification code that we get from that as well.

Now that we've gotten the code and put it in, it's asking for a little bit more information about us. We can input that information and then click next. Now you'll want to agree to these terms and now we are into our new YouTube account.

Now that we're here, we can customize our account a little bit. We're going to go up here, up to this silhouette, click on it. Then we can click on "my channel". We'll click create channel and here we are. Now we'll want to customize our channel before we start uploading any videos. We can give our channel a description. Maybe it'll be what the videos you're going to be posting are about or maybe a description about yourself. You don't have to add it, but you can. Then you'd click done. Another thing we might want to do is customize our channel art because this is how our channel, the page in which people will go to view our videos, will look so we can change the profile picture here. And the channel art here. That would be this banner area.

For further customization we would go to the video manager. Now from here we can see our videos. We don't have any currently. We could upload a new video here or we can go to our dashboard. You click "Upload Video". You might want to go to the settings here. We can change channel settings. A lot of this you probably won't want to touch. However, this upload defaults is interesting because we can give it a default title and a default description. It just makes life a little bit easier that when you add a video, it'll automatically pick up these information here as well as automatically setting a tag.

This helps people to find videos that are relevant to what they're looking for. Probably not too much else here you'll want to mess with except for maybe comments. You can turn off comments by default in your videos. That about wraps it up for our settings, we haven't made any changes, so we're going to click cancel. Okay. Now we get to the interesting part. We're going to upload a video. Now we could have actually uploaded a video by clicking on this button up here at the top. However we are going to go ahead and click it on here.

Now we can either drag and drop a video from our desktop here or we can click this button and then upload it from our desktop. I'm going to drag and drop. Now it's going to start uploading. That was quick and it's processing the video to get it ready to show. While it's doing this, it might take a little bit longer for you than it is for me just because this is a short little clip. You can also change the title. Now this is pulling it from the file name currently. If we had set a default it would be pulling it from there. The same thing with the description, so that's useful again for say if you wanted to add the same a description to every single video like we do in PD/GO with adding the description for PD/GO itself. You could have added that and that would be here and then you can just add a little bit more description of the video itself above that. Now you can also add advanced settings. We could have configured some of these to be the default before so that this would auto populate with what we were wanting, but we can also change that here. For example, like whether we want to allow comments or not on this video.

Now everything looks good to me. If you wanted to change this from being public to unlisted or private, you could certainly do that. Unlisted is where the video won't show up on generic youtube or by searching for it however it's still accessible with the link. This can get used a lot when you want to embed it on the website itself. However, you don't want people to just stumble upon it on youtube and you can also make it private to where the video itself is unaccessible. I'm going to make this unlisted just because no one really needs to see this example upload except for us. Now I'm going to click done. Now that that's done, congratulations. We have uploaded our first youtube video. It's accessible at this link here. I can verify that just by opening up another browser tab and then pasting it in and there we go.

We see it works just fine. Now I could also then take this URL and if I'm going to embed it inside of PD/GO Version 4 I can use insert when I'm in the PD/GO version 4 editor, I can go to insert widget and then drag and drop the youtube widget and this is what I would use for that. If I decided to use the embed code feature instead, which gives me a little bit more control. I can certainly do that. The code I want then is here in embed. This is the code I want.

You can click show more. We want to untick this show suggested videos item and the reason for that is that those suggested videos are based upon the watcher, not based upon the video itself, meaning that it's going to show suggested videos based on what the watcher has watched previously and not based on what you would be interested in suggesting to them. It can create some odd associations so it's just best just to uncheck that. And then we have this embed code. If we wanted to change the video size, we could do that as well as adding a custom size. And then once that's all set, we can copy this code right here. And then inside of PD/GO version 4, we would do insert and then embed code. The first item in the embed code is the name of the embed code and that's for you to know that's not publicly shown. You paste in that code and then press enter and then you can drag and drop that embed code. Well, congratulations. We've successfully gone ahead and created a youtube account, uploaded our first video, and made it so that we can use the code to embed it. Thank you for choosing PD/GO Digital Marketing, and I hope you have a wonderful day.
